Who Is My Reiki Master?

Reiki HealingI hadn’t seen Rosina Wiltshire since she moved from New York City some years back. It was a delight to reconnect when I arrived in Barbados to give my Medical Reiki seminar. Rosina’s intriguing saga of how she found her Reiki master came up in conversation, and she agreed to share it in this short video.

I’ll be blunt: Rosina is a remarkable woman. She served at the United Nations for 14 years in various capacities around the world, and put her doctorate in political science and international relations to good use as a university professor for more than 20 years (I envy her students).

When Rosina was leading the UN meditation group of the The World Community for Christian Meditation in New York City, she attended a retreat in which group leaders explored the commonalities and differences between Christianity and Buddhism with His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama.

Rosina has practiced Reiki since 1993, and was initiated as a Reiki master in 1998. She brings insightful analysis and heartfelt care to all she does. But don’t believe me: watch the short video and see for yourself.

  1. Lynnie, thank you for sharing your Reiki master story and making two very important points:

    1. Sometimes we need to hear something more than once, or from the right person at the right time, and

    2. Happiness and peace come when we make thoughtful life choices instead of staying with what we think we want.

It helps us communicating Reiki to other people if we remember that they also, may need to hear it more than once (and not from us repeating ourselves!) and in their own time. 🙂

    1. Thank you – that was a wonderful reply. I just finished your “Free Introduction to Reiki In Medicine” – wow!!! That was enough for me to register for your full introduction class. Thank you again and I can’t wait to learn more in the next webinar. Also, I am attending a “Healing Hands” intro class here in Albuquerque at our University Hospital. What do you know about Healing Hands – I feel it is really Reiki with a different name (I guess I’ll find out). I would appreciate your opinion on healing hands if you have the time.

      1. Lynnie, so happy that you found the “What is Medical Reiki?” webinar helpful.

I don’t know anything about Healing Hands. Reiki, however, is a particular spiritual healing practice that was founded by Mikao Usui, so unless a practice dates back to him, it’s not Reiki practice.

  2. I met my Reiki Master in Albuquerque,NM. Actually I met Betsy Morgan at an event at our church, I was interested in channeling. Many people suggested that I learn Reiki and offered to teach me as they said “you have Reiki hands”, but I wasn’t interested at that time. I just wanted to learn to channel. When I met Betsy, there was an immediate connection, she is so loving, kind and professional. After a few introduction classes for channeling, I signed up and became a professional channel. Throughout the channeling classes Betsy kept mentioning to me that I should probably consider Reiki as she kept getting information that that was what I was supposed to do. To make a long story short, I did become a Reiki Master through Betsy Morgan Coffman and am able to use channeling with Reiki while working with clients. Sometimes, we as human beings need to hear something more than once – or maybe we just need to hear it from the right person at the right time to move forward. I am so happy and at peace since I moved forward. Reiki makes life better for everyone. Betsy continues to be a loving inspiration in my life and for that (and so much more) I am Thankful.

  3. I was blessed to find my Reiki Master due to a series of synchronicities. I had recently moved to Ghana and had been seeking out yoga classes and community which I had previously been told did not exist there. I googled one night and a site came up with a workshop planned for the following weekend with Krishna Kaur. I “happened” to sit next to a wonderful woman in the workshop who shone with love and compassion (who incredibly had arrived in Ghana the same day as me!). I became unwell during the workshop and lay down on the floor in the back of the room. She came up to me, and gave me her number so I could contact her, at this point I didn’t know she was a Reiki Master, and then sadly I had to leave and miss the rest of the weekend. I called her the following week and went to her house so that we could get to know each other better. I had been struggling with a whole lot of stuff including culture shock and illness among other things and she came into my life with absolute divine timing. Her kindness, friendship and wisdom and ability to relate to my situation (she moves country every 4 years due to her husband’s work) became my life line and saviour. I walked away from our first catch up feeling lifted in so many ways. I then began having Reiki treatment with her. After a few months of regular Reiki sessions, we both felt that I was ready to receive the Level 1 Attunements. A few months later I received Level 2. She became my closest and dearest friend, sharing stories, books, knowledge and friendship, we even had a small Reiki circle – in Ghana of all places! We still communicate regularly and will continue to do so for life. I would love for her to be the one to initiate me into Master Level, but we will have to see if circumstances permit this due to the fact that I am now home in Australia and she is still in Ghana with her next country as yet unknown. I am eternally grateful for meeting her and receiving Reiki in the most unlikely of places, under the most unlikely of circumstances. Namaste

  4. Rosina! How beautiful to see you again!

My reiki master found me… He walked into my office and asked me if I knew about Reiki… Two days later i was at the Reiki I course and never stopped practicing reiki. Now Reiki Master myself. My beloved Reiki Master, Rosina’s brother, Winthrop!
    Love to you both!

    1. Dear Isabella,
How wonderful to hear from you. It is really humbling to read all the responses that have emerged from the sharing of my story. I am happy that my journey has brought insight to some who are in the process of choosing a master, and gratitude to others for the masters that they chose.
      Love
      Rosina

  5. It’s funny, but I was just thinking about my reiki master(s) this morning, in terms of my reiki lineage. I was giving a session, and it popped into my mind that one of the gifts of attunement is being grafted onto the ancestral tree of reiki masters, all the way back to Takata and ultimately Usui. In my mind I was comparing and contrasting the gift that flows through that ancestral tree to the many challenges that have come to me through my “genetic” ancestral tree. It made me grateful to know I could draw upon so much wisdom and grace.

  6. Pamela,

I’m so grateful that you shared this story, in listening to this wonderful journey Rosina went through, not realizing that her story is similar in so many ways for me at this moment. This story has answered the question for me on how to move forward with the bits of information that I had been “given” it all made sense after. It happen to so subtly, yet powerful as Reiki healing always is.

    Thank You
    Pamela & Rosina

  7. My Reiki Master is Kaimora. I met her at summer street fairs here in rural Maine; she did readings. She ran ads in the local paper for readings and Reiki classes. One day I felt a tremendous urge to learn Reiki, and I called her. She held Reiki classes in her home, Tangwala, in Oquossoc, Maine: alpine forest on the shore of Mooslookmaguntook Lake. Her home was full of crystals, soft chairs, and colorful crocheted afghans. I studied with her there and she gave me a jagged yellow crystal to celebrate my progress. She spent winters in St Augustine, Florida; and left for her winter home a week or so after initiating me to master. She passed that winter. I think of her often, grateful for her kind instruction. Thank you for this opportunity to honor Kaimora.

  8. I didn’t go looking for my Reiki Master. I found her by a series of coincidences that began with seeing her brochure in a shop window. The word “Reiki” drew me in, although I had no idea what it was. Every time I walked past the shop window, the word “Reiki” jumped out at me. This went on for about 12 months until, one day, I went in & bought a couple of books. The woman behind the counter invited me to attend the Reiki group practice night & I attended the following week. I’ll never forget that night. It was my first experience of Reiki. The Reiki Master held practice nights in her home every week. For the first time in my life I saw true compassion & complete acceptance without judgement. She opened the door to self love & gave me the tools to walk through it. My Reiki Master walked the talk & this impressed me enough to want to go “all the way” & become a teacher myself. She has since moved overseas but we remain friends & she will always be with me when I teach others about this beautiful spiritual path.

    1. Awesome story! I “met” my Reiki Master while at a drumming circle I attended with my plant spirit medicine teacher. We were not introduced there of course. I picked up a business card on my way out because I had been looking to find another Reiki practitioner. I didn’t feel a strong enough connection with the girl who had been working on me. When I showed up for my appointment with Dee Dee, I immediately recognized her and we clicked. She has been an amazing friend and mentor. I began Reiki training with her in 2007. We don’t live in the same city anymore, but we stay in touch. I will be receiving my attunements to become a Reiki master within a couple of months (once we work out a weekend when I can go visit). :).

Not only do we connect on multiple levels, but my 2 sons have truly connected with her and reach out to her :).
